Hoverboard for an 8 year old?

Son thinks he wants a Hoverboard for Christmas and I feel like it will never get used, or used in my house and destroy my floors. I also know nothing about them besides ER visits that will likely happen.
Any advice from parents or hipsters of the O-T?

Am I the only one that gets slightly triggered that they call these things hoverboards? Too much Back to the Future as a kid I guess.

My son got one when he turned 9.. Kid mastered it the first day.. Being a kid with a low center of gravity is awesome..
They don't mess up your floors, they mess up your baseboards...

My son is 8 and has one. He does fine with it. I broke my hand on it though.

Wife wanted to get son one this year. I veto'd because it would never get used after the first 2 weeks. just like the ones all of his cousins got last year.

I never got my son anything ride-on with a battery. Buy him a Penny board.
Those drift big wheels look cool too.
Gotta be human powered.

Nope, #metoo. Fwiw I was going to put in parentheses "roller board thing they call Hoverboard".

Like a legit hoverboard? Marty style??
Or one with wheels?? If so, it'll be used thru January once it he masters it. Last time he rode his bike could be a good measure. My 11yo nephew got one like 3-4 yrs ago, and I havent seen it since then.

This has been my argument. That and we live in the country so it's either inside, garage, or drive way to use it on. And that really just turns out to be the house and my floors. I wouldn't really care about the floor so much but my dad and I just put this flooring in when we bought the house and I don't want them or my trim dicked up.

My kids got one last year.
One is 9 one is 7
F a Hoover board.
Don’t buy it. ... luckily mine didn’t get hurt.
One of my buddies kid did though....His little fat arse got on it and didn’t end well.
Should’ve filmed it.

I thought they went out of style once all those knockoff ones were burning people's houses down.

I know multiple people who have gotten disc injuries from those things. Parents and guests inevitably want to try them and If the legs shoot out from under them they land in a really bad way.

One Wheel
Bought my 10 year old daughter the 18 mile range. Tire is super fat. Self balancing and it really hauls arse. It’s so awesome I bought another for myself. I ride it down to the beach from my house all the time.

Old enough for a CR80. Kick it up a notch.

Yeah I've seen the videos on Facebook. It would be funny for me to laugh at my son when he falls, but I really don't want injuries.

I have thought about asking my dad if he wanted to go in on something like this. He has land and permission to run the fields. I guess when I said I live in the country meaning a neighborhood outside of town. Can't really ride that stuff here although my teenage neighbor loves to piss the neighborhood off with his 4wheeler.

Could likely find a good clean used 80. Kids outgrow them pretty quickly. Any little boy would love used just as much as new
