Thanks for all the responses.
The commute info was not for me, but my son. He's a journeyman electrician and has been offered a job with an industrial contractor doing maintenance electrical work at one of the refineries in Deer Park. If he takes the job, a family member who is an empty nester living in Spring has offered to let him stay in his house for free, just splitting the food bill. So my son was wondering about the commute. And I posted that because I know the OT has a lot of members in Houston.
I told my son he could find a similar job at one of the numerous industrial plants between NOLA and BR and not have to move to Houston.

Well, if he's getting the friends and family rent rate, it'll give him time to move to Pearland or somewhere close to his job. A couple of months of traffic death can be dealt with.
Free rent was a critical element you left out, because that means your son would have thousands in the bank in a couple of months that he could use to move closer to his job.
His future is getting him out of Louisiana. I drove over an hour to shipyards on the Westbank, spent 40 minutes driving 15 miles in Baton Rouge, etc. He needs to go to Texas. Texas has electrician needs in helicopter repair, massive home building, rig repair, etc. Louisiana has ... Food?

Yeah. You're right about Texas being better for his career. That's one reason he wants to go with this new company, they promise to put him on a path to learning all about instrumentation. He's got a buddy who he went through his apprenticeship with that works for the company now and is in their instrumentation program and is very pleased with it.

Are you around that area? We have a massive expansion project going on right now.

Hi there, just joined so I could ask a couple questions about a boiler stand you made and posted pic of a while back. Doesn't seem this board has any PM methods...could I ask a couple questions about how it is fabricated?

Might as well get a sharp knife and remember it’s not horizontal it’s vertical.

Google maps has a feature where you can put in the from and to address and even the date and time you want to arrive. It will calculate the best route and tell you what time you need to leave. Based on historical data.

Maybe you can get in on a private helicopter shuttle service

I live in The Woodlands and work in Deer Park. Until they finish the ship channel bridge, 225 and 610 are both shite shows. It really doesn’t matter the time you leave, actually the earlier you leave in the morning you going have more traffic unless you leave at 5am. And as idlewatcher stated you better get used to podcasts or books on tape.
