Little Woodrow's- Shepherd is my preferred location, Rice Village isn't bad but much different atmosphere. Food is pretty standard bar food.
Big Star Bar if you want the Houston equivalent of Snake and Jake's, minus the 24 hour part.
Owl Bar winds up being a fun spot when the regulars cut loose.
