Their reasoning was that they didn't feel like toasting so late anymore. So instead of moving the viewing stands, they reversed to route cause god forbid the rich people need to stay up til 11pm to toast it up.
I could never understand the reasoning for getting to the reviewing stand at nearly 10 or 11 pm. Even for the day parades, last year it was nearly a 5 or 6 hour wait to get to the reviewing stand for some of the day parades.
I can recall one year there was one queen that was pissed that the Krewe of Hercules got rescheduled for after their parade. She toasted and took pictures for nearly an hour and a half.
At least now, if anyone live streams their parades and toasting you can watch it at a decent hour. If I remember correctly, HTV started their Facebook live streams right as the leading motorcycles reached their building at the corner of Main and Barrow Street. It was nearly 10 or 11 pm each time they did it.

Honestly I dont see this lasting more than 2-3 years before it is switched back.

It will have worse affects than just having the royalty toasting late.
As I stated the floats will leave the civic center and stage along barrow and the bands and extras will be filtered in by the town hall. This will mean tunnel which is the route to get around the parade will need to be shut down for likely 2 hours minimum because even once the parade is rolling, the toast will be happening and the end of the floats will still extend that far
It won't make the parade move faster as the accordion affect the sheriff mentioned in the video will still happen because the turn at barrow to main is a major slowing point just like the turn from bayou gardens to park.
Also so many times police vehicles stop and bs with other officers or just people they now then take off leaving float drivers with a huge gap that thry can't just haul arse and close. Add to that the bands, and the worse are the shriner cars and at clubs, thry stop constantly and bs then take off leaving gaps.
There will also be mass complaining because you are now starting the parade in more of a business area and ending in a residential area more or less. The residential area was at the beginning and the parade was passed at a decent time so those that want quiet can have it, meanwhile downtown the party goes on.
There are more negatives than positives honestly.
If they are so worried about the royalty not being out so late then move the reviewing stand to Kmart which is basically the half way point. The front the parade stops there anyway for everyone to catch up, so it makes sense to not have to add another stop.

That will depend on a few things.
Traffic will probably be the chief reason to switch it back. But, there are so many ways around Houma that you can still get to your location despite a major artery closing. The Tunnel is still closed when they are sending the floats to disband the parade already at the Civic Center so the closure argument is null.
If you get stuck on Tunnel trying to get to the East Side, you can always take Lafayette Street to Civic Center Boulevard and then cross the Dularge Overpass and the HNC bridge. It will take you to right where the Tunnel comes out near Van Avenue. If you are on the East side heading to the West side the Twin Spans will be open, and Park Avenue will be open until the Parade gets to Hollywood.
Secondary reasons would be that it doesn’t speed up the parade, the culture crowd at the old That Stanley’s stays put even after the parade and does not disburse after the parade is over causing more trouble after the parade, and another reason, is that the “family crowd” complains enough that they don’t want the floats passing near Broadmore at midnight.

No it isn't. The traffic is stopped momentarily while a float is passing the intersection. In between floats the traffic flows. If the floats are stsging there then it would need to be blocked off for long.
I dont see any way to handle the culture crowd unfortunately. The only real plus for me with the reversed route is I won't be stuck sitting in that area while the toast is happening.
I dont see the speed changing. Krewes actively Findlay to stall or slow the parade, on top of the other stoppages from officers, shriner cars, and other entities stopping to bs, etc.
Like I said the only real issues this "corrects" is the royalties family having to wait till so late, and the parade sitting in front of the "culture" area.
Both could be fixed by moving the reviewing stand but I know ole Martin won't allow that to happen.

I know my way around houma but tunnel is a main artery, especially during Mardi gras season.

I understand your points, but
1. There are multiple ways to go "around" the parade
2. The benefit of not rolling through the ghetto and/or downtown at night is worth it

We will see in a few years what the backlash is like.
I've been involved with Mardi gras in houma for 16 years. I give it 3 years before its changed back

It will revert back to normal after covid. They just want to reduce the clustering downtown

I hope you are right. It is time to get back to normal if you that worried about catching the China Virus then just stay home.

Blocking 311 and Tunnel down Barrow for an extended period of time at the beginning of the parade might cause some issues.
They might consider staging the floats on Wood St much like where they used to end the parade way back.

Have another DV you liberal child fricking idiot.

The fact that you suggested the Dularge Bridge as a route tells me you dont live in Houma, and arent familiar with the area. That bridge is down for extended periods of time throughout the year.
