Been around horse racing in some capacity or another all my adult life.
Bet a little but not much. Jon Vietch was once asked if he was going to bet on Alydar, his trainee, and responded, "they will drive you plenty crazy enough without betting on them."

Depends in the horse. A real good horse, broken maiden or not, will never be allowed to be dogged. Owners don't want that, and trainers want $$ and to keep the horse. If they duck around a good horse, the owners will know and move the horse.
One of the best strategies is to look for a decent horse with below par finishes that has switched trainers......add a solid jockey to that and I bet em every time.

Buddy of mine worked the jockey room at evd for years. He made a cash fortune betting the scuttle butt from the jockeys. They know most of the time the winners in every race. It is almost like magic.
