I guess it depends on how one defines the term. I should have used the word mechanical. Your brain has a chemical/electrical function that is far more complex than say, your rotator cuff. Changes in the neurological function of your brain occur all the time. Addiction is certainly a change in the brain. My points still stand. Its a "disorder" not a "disease". Changes in brain function that result in personality changes, pain tolerances, behaviors, perceptions, etc are usually called "disorders".

It's more than a disorder. It can be life threatening

There is something that hpapend a while back that becasue of it i will never believe addiction is a diease.

the girl i used to date that did roxys, i bought her some H because it's cheaper and i was tired of spending 300 dollars a day so she can be sober i can spend 200 and that shite can last you 4-5 days. Anyway, we got the shite from a female friend of hers because neither of us knew an H plug and she did. And apparently my ex had pissed off this girl so what she did is she basically took some brownish soap and made it look like H and sold it to her. neither of us knew this at the time but my EX took that shite and slept fine / was good. she wasn't high as frick but she wasn't having withdrawls either. the brain thought it was getting H.

i did not find out until i was fricking her friend one night lol, after we had broke up and she told me that she was sorry about selling the fake dope to her. i still don't think she knows what happened that night.

Many disorders are.

BTW, the link you posted describing addiction...is spot on and jives with what I posted. Its neurological. The one disagreement I have with the link is the use of the term "disease". It should be correctly labeled a disorder because it occurs in the brain as a chemical/electrical response/change.

As another poster said, its called a "disease" for its own reasons both political and financial. Insurance companies have to pay for the treatment of "diseases". Theres huge money in rehab treatment.

I know all this is a problem. We all have some kind of vice or issues. Some have it much worse than others and will do anything to keep that high

that's easy to say when you aren't living it. girl was cute, even classy and a nurse with a college degree. i thought i could save her. we had agreed to taper her off the drugs over a span of 3 months. but every time i would buy enough for a week she'd use it in a day or 2. and spending 2 grand a week on drugs yhou aren't even using gets old as frick really quick. plus she had a spillage issue in which if i bought 10, she'd end up doing 7 and lose 2-3 and i got tired of wasting the money

plus i had to realize not everyone is me. i dont' like the dope life. i'm a pretty normal dude that when i get bored from time to time, likes to do skate and have sex lol. not everyone can take it and leave it like that and that took some learning.

efficacy of treatment and the impact of addiction is the same. Who cares? Why does it mean so much to you that people agree on such a trivial thing?

Because I see addiction disorders on a regular basis at work and have developed an educated opinion based on literature and practical experience.

i refused to say i'm vengeanceofrain and i'm an addict. i would always say i'm vengeanceofrain and i'm addicted to crack cocaine. because i'm NOT addicted to alcohol or anything else. i'm not a polysubstance abuser.

but what really got me, that actually got me kicked out of a home group was "your best thinking got you here". no actually it was quite literally my worst lol. to say my best thinking got me here means i've never accomplished anything at all in my life and i have.

What ?

Im an educated, intellectual man, Smart enough to know I don't have medical training and probably shouldn't be making drug treatment plans.

Look I get it ,when sex is involved we make poor decisions but this is a bit much.

Just because someone makes a bad choice that leads to being addicted to something, doesn't automatically mean its a disease. Its a cop out.

Another reason why this should be treated as a medical condition and not a crime.

slippery slope there. You start treating this as medical condition you will open the door for other stuff. I can only assume you mean a mental condition that led them to mess with this stuff. You start treating it this way and soon the leftest lunatics will want to treat pedophiles as having medical conditions.

i mean, she was going to do the 300 a day worth of shite rather i gave it to her or not. i loved that girl and i would rather give her the 300 and her be safe around me then go out and do god knows what, steal god knows what, frick god knows who or whatever to get high. the problem wasn't me buying her drugs is that she never really wanted to get clean in teh first place she just knew i'd keep buying drugs . plus i have known anexity issues and me buying her drugs and keeping her where i can see her was better than the alternative, me not buying her drugs, her calling me telling me her life is in danger or she owes someone money for tghis or she's about to get raped or killed or some shite then i'm at risk of relapsing myself.

of course, the real solution was to just walk away altogether but when you are in love you don't think like that

You hear that, folks? We start treating addiction like a medical problem and libs are going to diddle our children. It's the logical conclusion.
