My mother lost one of her two keys to her 2005 Honda Accord. Called up dealership and they want $210 to make a replacement key?????????????????? Out and out robbery by a bunch of thieves. And apparently you can only get a replacement key through the dealership. Just a bunch of thieves.

You can’t lose stuff if you’re poor. Lesson learned

Just called the Honda in Gulfport and they want $110. $40 for the key and $70 for the programming. Does not include all the various buttons.
The $210 was the Covington Honda.

I had the tires/wheels/key replacement insurance deal and I had a key replaced. The dealership only billed the company $75 for a 2016 Accord. Def a racket.

Thank you! Looks like the key will still have to be programmed. The Gulfport Honda wanted $70 for programming. I will have to call blacksmiths tomorrow and see if anybody can program the key outside the dealership.

Make the key yourself if it’s so easy.

You need more than 1 key?

I remember a time not too many years ago when you simply went to any key maker and he made you a replacement in a couple minutes for $5.

I'd just buy a new car over spending $200 on a 2005 Accord.

Things were definitely simpler at one point.

That was the same time I could crank your car with a screwdriver.
(Please disregard the post right above yours about cranking hyundais and kids with a male usb)

Actually I called a locksmith and he said do you have AAA and did it make sure you tell AAA it’s a lock out keys gone

Check a local ACE hardware, some of them have the capability to program car keys. Cheaper than dealership.

The problem is, you have to get it cut and programmed. Local key shops want almost that much also. If you buy a replacement key and take it to a local dealer, chances are they won’t do it unless you show you purchased it from a Honda dealer. That’s what a local dealer at 2 locations told me. It’s a scam.

No chip inside, just shell and blank...my local dealership said they would not cut these keys, they say that blanks may have imperfections and may damage their equipment. I visited a locksmith and they swapped everything over including the chip, cut and tested on my honda for $45. Dealer wanted almost $300
Buy the shell and blank...locksmith swapped everything over, cut and tested for $45. That may be the best option if you have the old key. Not sure if it would work without an original key.
