Everyone,
When looking for a property to renovate what are the most important things to look for in the structure? I'm in the market for a house right now and it seems a lot of the houses for sale in the area im looking(70005) were recently flipped. If this is something I could do myself at a fraction of the cost it would save tens of thousands.( I have a large group of friends who are contractors to lean on wont be doing much myself). My biggest question is what to look for in the structure to be renovated? My assumption is a solid foundation with decent major systems at a size that works for me. Your thoughts?

It all depends on what you are good at or are willing to do. I hate roofing so I won't buy a house that needs a roof (unless the price of a new roof has been figured into the costs of the house). I like to renovate bathrooms so a dated bathroom isn't a turnoff for me.
Foundation issues and roofing are the biggest turnoffs for me.

Thanks. I'm looking into major renovation because 70005 is older homes 1950-1960s and I want a modern home with an open floor plan . There are very few homes that meet those specific requirements in that neighborhood.

Why don't you call that large group of contractor friends you have and ask them what they'd look at?

Look for a cracked foundation. That would be the main concern for this area. I live in 70005, and the hardest thing was to find a house that didn't look like a typical Metairie 1-story home.
I'd get actual contractors to do the inspection. Most inspectors suck arse
