I was with State Farm for years, but their auto insurance kept rising and rising and getting in touch with my agent's office became a chore so I switched over to Geico for considerably cheaper.
There was an article on BR Business Report today saying State Farm will be decreasing rates in July, for what it's worth.

I am just going to go ahead and say it. frick State Farm. Did anyone else, who uses them, have an increase to their policy lately?

my wife works for them. The increase was statewide, but State Farm implemented it first. They should be having a decrease soon.

This thread has been really helpful since I have been in the market for home owners insurance recently. This is actually the first I even hear of an independent agent. I sat down and looked up every insurance place I could find and called each and every one for a quote. This required me giving about 10 minutes worth of the same info about the home to every single one. This took me an entire day, and I've done it twice so far.
Getting insurance in southern LA is a bitch. How exactly would I find the best independent agents in the Lafayette area if needed?

We used a broker through mid south insurance in br but bought in ellic... city doesn’t matter, ended up with ASI, which is now umbrella under progressive. Was a ton cheaper than USAA, even with multiple other usaa accounts

An Allstate agent is Allstate’s agent NOT your agent.
Ditto for State Farm, Progressive, etc.
Agreed, except Progressive goes thru independent agents that aren’t locked into ONLY writing thru them like State Farm, Allstate, Farm Bureau. I write for Progressive plus 3 other auto carriers and about 15 homeowner carriers.
To OP, if you’re in south LA then independent agent will be your best bet...especially on the homeowner side since most of the big name companies like State Farm or Allstate either aren’t writing south LA at all or exclude wind/hail. Independents will be able to provide number of different coverage and deductible options
