It's nice to have, but damn it heats up the space.

Crack a window or put the ceiling fan on.

Is this in a double or single wide?

If you want ambiance, go wood burning. If you want heat, gas ventless.

It’s basically a gas furnace right in your living room. It’s awful.

I had my questions when my wife insisted on gas/ventless when we were building. I had grown up using a wood fireplace, and I thought that's what we needed. Fortunately, she prevailed (shocker), and our ventless gas unit will heat the whole goddamn 2 story house.
We use it mainly for aesthetics, but it's so efficient that we have to wait until it is C-O-L-D before cranking it up. Some of its efficiency may come from the home's spray foam insulation, but it's still pretty amazing.

I love ours. So easy to use and maintenance free.
I love a good log fire. But I have that out in the backyard. Get all the benefits there too and again no maintenance or effort really.

This sounds like a recipe for asphyxiation.
