From my experience, it depends on the league/tournament and the facilities. In our league for U-9 and U-10, there is no chance IMO that any kid will hit one out. The tournaments weve played recently, temp. fences are brought in to give the kids a chance..but not much of a chance.

It's rare to see one go over the fence even at the 11&12 level from what I've seen.

I'll just say that it's not about the parents "forcing" their kids to play ball, or receiving rings if they win. The kids see thru all of this shite. In 10, 20, 30 years, they'll still remember the memories they gained from playing sports. That is the true takeaway.

if parents would send their kids to shitty high schools to play baseball, they'd get that playing time... but instead they all want them to go to jesuit, brother martin, or john curtis...

My son has been playing travel ball for 4 years on some very successful teams in the NW La area. I have my pros and cons about usssa. The tournament director is the one who makes the decision on giving rings or medals. They are cheap generic rings that my son has never worn and most likely never will.

Fwiw. The tournament director is the one who is taking in the cash!!!

and it if it was done right... they will know how to compete, be a team mate, be accountable to others, work hard, win and lose....

in other words they learn how to compete in life playing games.....

if my kid stopped playing today - he would have gotten far more benefit out of playing baseball than most of you could fathom - especially those of you that think they know.... but really are clue less...

if my kid doesn't play after hs so be it.... he has gotten a lot out of it...

lester saw your alma mater saturday....

Whoever believes this is delusional.
We did it because my son wanted to do it. When he got to HS ball he got to play because of what he put into it there. It was all on him.

Glad to hear your son made it. I will say though I've got a bit of a different opinion on what it takes for a kid to make it, although in the end it is on the the kid himself. I think little league coaches play either a big role in helping or hurting a kid's chances of playing JV or HS ball. It's the little league coach who lays down that foundation of baseball fundamentals that will form the habits that kid takes with them when their done with little league. That foundation will either serve the kid and give their coaches at the next level a foundation to build on or make them decide the kid is not worth having to undo the damage improper teaching at the little league level did to the kid's baseball fundamentals.

That's why winning and losing at the little league level should never be a big concern of a coach. Our job is to teach the fundamentals that kid needs to help them down the road. And from my years of experience, I can say that if you teach the fundamentals right, winning and losing takes care of itself.

I've moved back to Tball this year, mostly 3 and 4 yr olds. We had our first game this past Saturday. It was precious.

no different than college. no one plays football at Harvard if they can at LSU

cleary has a big field?

the 9-10, 11-12 field is regulation, but the older field is much smaller than just about any in the parish

One thing I find curious about so many parents and coaches... but mostly NOT players... is how they say they are preparing kids for high school and college all the time, when it comes to competitive ball.

There seems to be an overemphasis on always looking ahead to the next level and not enough emphasis on what's happening in the present.

90%+ of all baseball players that start at age 8 play their last game before the ripe old age of 15. The vast majority of them never make a high school team.

When you play baseball under the age of 15, this is IT. This is your baseball career. Parents in particular need to buy into this a little more... because so many spend so much time and effort in "development" that they don't even enjoy the games they are playing now.

That's why I support rec ball the way that I do. We need to save rec ball, folks. Travel ball has its purpose and so does rec ball. Both should be supported. Right now, one is very under-supported and unappreciated in Baton Rouge, for sure.
