You guys are putting way too much stock into the quality of these rings. They are cheap little pieces of jewlery that aren't more expensive than a trophy.

I don't think it's so much about the costs as to the expectations it is putting in kids' heads.

A ring?

No one knows who will be good until they get to high school. By good I mean a chance to play in college.
There is a reason only 50% of 1st round draft picks get to the majors. Unless its a player is like Griffey Jr., evaluating baseball talent is a crap shoot.

the only rule LHSAA has is that the principal of the school sets pitch counts, which in effect means the only rule is no rules

EVERY other state limits it somewhat, but none of them do by the number of pitches. it should be a federation rule like little league but at a slightly higher number of pitches

but if you're a 5A team and you don't have enough depth that your pitcher has to go like that, you shouldn't be winning

How much money did it cost you for the supplies of his Navy Seal outfit? How much time did your family sit out in the yard and watch him play with the other kids? How many private Navy Seal lessons did you pay for? Did your kid ever become "numb" to playing Navy Seals because he's played Navy Seals so much since he was 7 years old that it's just routine now, and not enjoyment?

why do you care what my wife and I spend our money on? Why does it bother you? We enjoy visiting different ballparks and watching our son play baseball, what is so wrong with that? We dont take it seriously man, we dont pay for private lessons. If he told me tomorrow he didnt want to play travel and just wanted to play with the rec league then thats what we would do. He likes being around his friends and competing on the baseball field. He also plays travel soccer and enjoys that just as much if not more.

Do I think he's going to play either sport at the next level? Or even the level above that? Not a chance, but at least he enjoying it and we enjoying seeing him happy.

What age do you see some kids start hitting over the fence? Just curious.

Some will do it every now and then at 11& 12 level from what I've seen in the past couple years.

One thing to consider though is that in the last few years many leagues are placing restrictions on bats that limit the speed of the ball coming off the bat. For example in Dizzy Dean all bats must be stamped BPF 1.15.

Thank you!

And as for rings, I don't really see that as any different than any other trophy.

How is a ring cheaper than trophies? Trophies are cheap plastic that don't need to be customized. Rings need to be sized, likely the parents will want to have the kids number on the ring, etc.

the rings are cheap rings not customized....

Yeah I'm not understanding why some are indignant that kids are getting rings. The only drawback I can see is they're easier to lose than a medal or a trophy.

There is a lot more traffic ITT so I'll ask here.

Do they push the fences back each year? Do they play on the little fields for a few years then jump up all at once?

I am ignorant but intrested.

Because 95% of the parents of high school athletes believe that how much money and time they spent on their son's baseball endeavors should directly correlate with how much playing time they deserve on a high school field.

As the child grows, the fields get bigger and the bases further apart.

From my experience, it depends on the league/tournament and the facilities. In our league for U-9 and U-10, there is no chance IMO that any kid will hit one out. The tournaments weve played recently, temp. fences are brought in to give the kids a chance..but not much of a chance.

Whoever believes this is delusional.
We did it because my son wanted to do it. When he got to HS ball he got to play because of what he put into it there. It was all on him.
