Unsure if you baws have seen the show, but treasure hunters are chasing myth that Confederate treasure was stolen when Davis was caught.

My questions to history buffs wasn't the Confederate government broke?

I can't believe people watch that, especially since it's hosted by those dipshits that have been digging in one spot for 3 years and found nothing except a few pottery shards.

New Orleans held a large amount of Confederate gold that was transported out of the city before the Yankees took over and transported to somewhere in Georgia. If there was any substantial amount left, it could have been stolen by a number of people, either Union or Confederate.

Isn't this the same channel that had a show about the hunt for mermaids?

There actually was several million dollars in unaccounted for gold. Whether the History Channel knows its whereabouts is doubtful.

The last Confederate treasury secretary, George Trenholm, is the most likely suspect.

There was also missing gold from the fall of New Orleans. It was taken to Columbus Ga. in the custody of Beauregard then disappears from the record.

ETA somebody beat me to it.

I swear it seems like half of the old plantations around home have some legend about buried treasure (confederate, planter, or otherwise). I've personally never seen so much as a brass nut of loot.

That was advertised as a mockumentary. It isn't their fault some dumbasses believed it. I worked with an old guy who bought it

I liked the show not for the thought of then actually "solving" the curse but the history in it was good. Haven't seen the confederate one yet tho

There is potential 80K worth of gold coins (value back then) in the lower Honey island. But that's a different story and a different time. Way prior to civil war.

They found bones (one bone from a european, one from a middle eastern person) buried 190' deep, too along with hinges, hand cut wood, etc. They have actually found tons of shite. There is a lead cross believed to date back to pre 1500 and a jewel just discovered thought to be similarly aged.
