I personally enjoyed the cash gifts. It paid for a lot of my college supplies, books, food and just entertainment money.
Part of my graduation gift was a laptop which was great.

When I graduated high school, my graduation present was luggage.
It's not even a Rodney Dangerfield joke. It's a true story.
Nice luggage too, I still have it and use it 20+ years later.

several years back I gave a younger fella who helped me a lot at deer camp a fifty dollar bill and a 1/2 dozen condums with a card that said "use all wisely". It was very well received.
