High points to visit in Maine & New Hampshire?

Flying out from Memphis Friday...found tickets from Memphis to New York for $230!! Sweet. So, I am visiting my stepdad's family for a few days in Maine. They live near the NH line. I have never been further NE than VA, however. What are some attractions of these two states? I am big into colonial era and politics so I am thinking NH has this. Maine, I am unsure.

I lived in Nashua for a year. Enjoyed Ogunquit, Kennebunk, etc. Everybody gets their hotdogs from Flo's on Route 1.
Went to Pumpkin Fest in Keene. That was some shite.
Of course there is Mt. Washington and Winnipasaukee

Mount Katahdin (pronounced /k?'t??d?n/, "k?-TAH-d?n") is the highest mountain in Maine at 5,270 feet (1,606 m). Named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians, which means "The Greatest Mountain", Katahdin is the centerpiece of Baxter State Park.
Mount Washington is the highest point in New Hampshire and the highest point in the northeast at 6,288 feet above sea level. It's located in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains.

L L bean store in Freeport
Red's lobster rolls in Wiscassett
East of Bangor: Trenton Bridge lobster - road going to Acadia Park - pick your lobster they cook it on the spot
Drive as much of the coast road as possible. All small towns and beautiful scenery. Rarely need air conditioning, especially at night.
Note: Maine and New Hampshire do not cook food like southerners. There's is bland and they don't do iced tea right. The lobster however is great.
New Hampshire:
North Conway area is beautiful. A lot of blueberries grown in this state and Maine. You can get killer blueberry pancakes.
Budweiser brewery in Merrimack
Lots of old homesteads, some with colonial significance.

Bar Harbor and Acadia National area is one of my favorite places. The weather is incredible and the scenery is like something from a postcard. I also enjoyed Kennebunkport, but not as much as Bar Harbor area. I would move up there if not for, well...winter.

The place will be crawling with people wherever you go. Be prepared to enjoy Mt. Baxter, etc., with thousands and thousands of others. You might ask your family for some hiking trails or something that may not be flooded with humanity.

The NH coast will be packed this time of year. NH and southern Maine both have some beautiful coastline. You don't want to go swimming at the beach though. Even in the dead of summer, water temp rarely gets above 65 degrees.

All that sounds great. I am, also, going to be in NH for a GOP stop with my man. Sounds like a blast --> anything to eschew the 105 degree days here!

If you want to get away in Maine go to Moosehead lake. The place is awesome for fishing, hiking, relaxing, and seeing moose. The NH shoreline as someone else mentioned is great, Newburyport in MA has that old timey feel.

I'm from New Hampshire, I lived in MA for six years, I live in Vermont now, I have a camp in Maine and I don't have enough time to correct all the incorrect things that have been stated in this thread.
If you're in Maine by the NH state line, there is outlet shopping and lobster in Kittery. For genuine colonial history go to Boston for the Freedom Trail and Lexington and Concord nearby. It's only an hour south on 93.
Political history in NH - you can follow the nascent presidential campaign - go have pancakes with some knucklehead running now, but historical stuff is sparse and spread out in NH.

Kennebunkport is very nice. Portland's downtown is worth a trip as well.

Anyone familiar with St. Albans? That's where the lodge we are staying is. I am meeting with the Rubio Committee while there in Hooksett, NH Tuesday morning. Hoping to check out what Maine has Sunday and Monday.

There's some legit class IV/V whitewater in Maine. We took a trip up there and stayed by Katahdin. It was pretty cool. Didn't get to do our second rafting trip because of flooding.
