In this thread to confirm The OP statement.
We live in central, had flood insurance (structure but not contents) wife works in disaster recovery for the state, she calls fema and inquires about assistance/grant to maybe cover contents lost. Lady days you HAVE TO APPLY for an Sba loan before you can be considered for a grant, NOW THIS SOUNDS GREAT, but you must ask the next question to FEMA . "What happens if I am approved for the SBA loan?" They will say "then you are ineligible to get grants". And hey will point you to heir policy in the website were it says this in black and white.
What people should also realize is that the level of aid that can be granted to this region is being severely limited bc this was not a "named storm"

I'm staring at the sheet that states this in black and white. If I knew how to post it, I would.
I'm not tech savvy.

There is a shite ton of misinformation out there about FEMA, yet people continue to pass of their experiences as if they're going to be same for everyone.

I don't think you've got that right. It is income based, not credit based unless this is maybe for a business? Regardless, as someone who only qualified for an SBA loan after Katrina, I advise you to call again because it was commonplace after Katrina to call 3 different times and get 3 different answers. On top of that after Katrina, it might take 3 hours of calling and hanging up to get through without a busy signal. It was like us old LSU Alumni who remebmer trying to dial REGGIE as soon as registration opened at LSU, only 10,000,000 times worse.

So the moral of the story is:
The next time a disaster is forecast for your area, go run every credit card up to the max, don't pay your house or car note, let your credit score drop like a rock, and you'll be in better shape than if you did everything responsibly.

So you're upset the government won't replace the contents inside of your home?
If people want to be upset someone else gets help and they don't, go right ahead, but this kind of thing was completely avoidable (with insurance). It may not be fair that someone else is getting help, but the fact is that for those with insurance, anyone getting any help is unfair.
People aren't bitching and moaning about handouts in this thread, they're bitching and moaning that they don't get a handout too.

Slack I think you misunderstood my post. I'm just confirming the OP. I'm not mad at all. We have insurance and will be fine. We were just trying to determine if our situation made us eligible for the grant..we didn't know how it works. We will be applying for the loan to cover any gaps our insurance does not catch.

I think it's wrong that the people who work and pay for the so called "handouts" can't get them. My thing is I work I pay my taxes for FEMA to operate but when u need it they give your money to people who invested 0 to taxes and offer you a loan. That shite ant right!

I have no dog in this fight. I know someone who lives in DS who got 4 feet of water in his house. He and his wife both have impeccable credit and make damn good money. They got over $20k from FEMA.

Additional Disaster Assistance Program Information:
"Money is awarded for necessary assistance and serious needs caused by the disaster. This includes medical, dental, child care, funeral, personal property, transportation, and moving and storage that are authorized by law. To qualify for this assistance, you must have needs caused by the disaster not covered by insurance. For personal property, transportation, and moving and storage, an applicant must be declined a disaster loan from the SBA."
I can't figure out the picture posting stuff...

I get that it sucks, but the government would have helped repair your home if you needed it, but they won't replace your possessions. That is how emergency assistance should be used IMO.
I hate that it is such a handout to others, but I'm not going to get worked up because even MORE people want money.

The SBA is the Small Business Administration. I don't think they're in the business of giving residential loans. But I'm just a layman.
You are partially correct: You are just a layman.
The SBA is the federal agency through which the FEMA loans are administered. Seems counter-intuitive but it's the federal government so what are you expecting.

So hey had zero flood insurance and were not in a flood zone...they should get big dollars regardless of credit score or income.
FTR, homeowners don't mean shite when you flood
