The US was.. not to say the least.
Listen, man. You're a finance guy. I think you have the ability to look at these numbers and statistics and realize whats going on.

I understand that any death rate above what influenza kills is bad but I also understand that we are still very early into this and making a lot of assumptions as we are only working off of incomplete data at this point.
I also understand that 70% of deaths in the USA have come from one retirement home. In fact, it was not actually a retirement home but rather it was an acute care facility where people are very old and very sick. 7 people die there on average every month without COVID19.
Influenza could have wreaked havoc in that place too.
I think we should be concerned but the panic at this point is silly. There is a difference.

I know you think you’re smart because you have a lot of posts on the internet, but you aren’t smarter than the world’s leading health experts tough guy. If you think it’s a bad idea to try to prevent the spread of a disease that we
1) dont have a vaccine for
2) dont have enough tests for
3) dont have any means of fully containing beyond full out china quarantines
is a bad idea, you’re a fricking moron. I bought a 6 pack tonight because I ran out fyi, but if people like you keep acting like it’s impossible for us to get fricked by a disease keep breathing the same air as me are around I might need to run back to the store tomorrow.

I saw this exact graph today and I think people need to see it. Tonight I sat with a guy from England. He’s been living in the states for ten years. He began to tell me about people he personally knows affected/deceased now from corona. This was not a bleeding liberal. Loves America. He brought up a lot of good points about where we are now vs. where China said they were two months ago.
In no way am I a fear mongering piece of shite because at the end of the day, I’ve got work tomorrow. No one else is gonna pay these bills. He did bring up some valid points though about people who will absolutely beat this thing, but may pass it on to a child without intention. that’s the thing that makes me think twice. Also having an elderly parent with copd and lung cancer. I told mom she needs to stay away from the bridge games for a minute.

1000 cases as of today. Virus is doubling roughly every day in America.
11 doubling times = ~1,000,000 cases
So in 11 days, we could potentially have 1,000,000 cases. If you consider it is doubling about every 4 days in most other countries, then we'll see 1,000,000 cases in roughly a month and a half.
Now, I doubt it happens due to the lockdowns, school closings and large venue cancellations, but it's very plausible in theory. In South Korea (who is very proactive) it is doubling every 9 days.
Nonetheless, I think before this is over, we'll have millions of infections. I wouldn't worry too much if you're young and in good health, but the big problem is hospitals will be seriously overwhelmed with the elderly. We have about 100,000 ICU beds in the United States and only about 60,000 respirators. Considering all the heart attacks, car crashes, and other sick people who already need an ICU bed, the system very well could crash. We might see makeshift hospitals pop up like China was doing.
Good post, OP.

Does anyone know the age of the youngest person to die from it so far? Serious question because I have been curious about this. I know in Italy the youngest so far is 55.
