you should have paid attention in chemistry class
not only is helium non flammable it's also a fire retardant
Helium is a very interesting substance, very useful and also finite.
any free helium gas escapes into space, so it's generally stored and shipped as a liquid, but it will escape any container without a completely sealed chamber. The US has maintained a helium reserve for decades but has been steadily selling it off

Interestingly, Helium isnt flammable, yet Helium-3 is a potential fuel source for nuclear fusion. It's abundant on the moon of all places and a big reason why some countries want to get there and mine it. Supposedly a space shuttle bay full of H3 from the moon has the capacity to capacity to power the US for a whole year. Crazy stuff. I think it's interesting this never gets more press.
