Many people like their “extra daylight” after work and think that it would still get dark at 5:30 year round without DST.
Sometimes it definitely seems like folks think that, for whatever reason.
It helps to visualize:

This plot includes the time change, obviously. It also depends where you live.
Folks always talk in terms of the December sunrise/sunset times. But the fact is that those are our shortest days. Regardless of how we set our clocks, days will be shorter in December and longer in June. It is what it is.
In my opinion we just need to pick one and stick with it. I don’t really care whether we have more sunlight in the morning or evening, but the time changes are stupid. It really sucks with young kids.

Then quit trying to force your own personal best case scenario on the rest of the country without considering the impact on others.
The government did it.
They did it because I and a majority of others want it.
You live 3 miles from a mountain range to your east and at a higher latitude. Avoiding a later sunrise is problematic where you live. And you act like you care all of a sudden about 4 months out of the year.

I could friggin care less, I just don’t want them to take my damn hour of sleep. Those frickwads can come over here and get my kids ready for school this morning. Worst day of the year.

Lighting is cheap nowadays. We aren't burning oil and candles anymore, and bulbs are energy efficient.
frick that. I hate it getting dark at 4:30 in the winter.

Looks like half of the morons on here do not know which is which. Good luck with your cross-eyed wives and mongoloid children.

I have a job and kids and don't care if it's ever daylight past about 7-7:30pm. I'd prefer it to get dark at least by that time
Screw that. K just played baseball with my kids from 6:00 until 7:10 and it was great.
I'm willing to deal with a darker morning in exchange for that.

You can still have an early morning jog around the neighborhood whether or not the sun is up yet though
You can cut your gras. After work even if it's after sun down. There is a thing called lights.
I love doing things after work, but those things include hanging on my back patio with friends cooking and just relaxing from the day. I prefer to do that afflter dark where it's cooler.

What did they do?
Pass a feel good legislation in the Senate for the low IQ crowd to get all excited over then not even bring it up to vote in the house so nothing changes???
Also did you ask every person in the country which the prefer? Social media and Tiger Droppings isn't a good indicator of the entire country.

I think Louisiana should be in the Central time zone (with daylight savings) during the summer and then Eastern time zone during the winter.
