Pilot got out. I think 5 people are trapped. Happened right outside my place. I have a partial river view and it turned into a disaster scene right as I was rocking my one year old to sleep. Thought a couple of the search helicopters were going to come through the window.

The river is moving pretty fast and the search boats were a few blocks away by the time I went outside. Hope the passengers are found alive, but it is a long shot.

ETA: 2 dead 3 critical

That “crash”/ autorotation was pretty well performed, they probably all drowned or tried to get out with the rotors still turning and got hit.

Sounds like it was a tour run by a company called FLYNYON where the helicopter doors are off and the passengers are harnessed in and hanging off the side.

The passengers were screwed as soon as they hit the freezing waters.

Welp that was quite the heroic gesture.

He’s probably the only one with any kind of training in that situation.

Seems like someone could invent a landing cushioning/buoyancy system that inflates right before impact.

Emergency deployment floatation equipment has been around for a long time.

Already exists. If you've ever spent time in helicopters you would understand why so few survive crashes.

Choppers that carry tourists around here are required to have floatations devices on the skids. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in them

I know many helo drivers. Word is that he had an engine failure and auto rotated into the river. Floats may not have deployed properly and it went under quickly. Poor passengers were in full harness and hit that cold water. Unless you've had HUET/Heeds training you likely wouldn't have a good chance.
