You mean the mother who is also a neurologist and very aware of the prognosis her daughter's condition carries? And the father who is a pilot (which means he's very educated as well).

Some 5 year olds are older than others.
Self determination does not have an "age of consent" - in my opinion - at least not for all purposes. As long as the choice is reasonable and her choice certainly seems to be reasonable - I say, let it stand.
And, yes, I believe a 5 year old (although that is kind of the lower limit for most) is old enough to accept truth. It's not like she hasn't been dealing with this shite for her entire collective memory. Kids know shite even if you don't tell them.

Yeah - frick that. Someone does that to my kid without any realistic chance of her getting better - that's a problem. If they don't stop when I say stop, that's a bigger problem. Sometimes merely existing isn't worth the price, tough as that sounds.

It would be different if a hospital stay guaranteed that she'd live a few months longer... but that doesn't seem like the outcome here. Let the girl die at home where she wants to be.
