A cytokine storm (which is how flu typically kills healthy people in that age group) will strike fast and out of nowhere.
Your system gets overwhelmed and shuts off like a switch. Further more there is little more modern medicine can do but offer supportive care.
You think pandemic flu had people muddling along for weeks before killing them?
