It sounds a like a lot more fun than it actually is once you've been there a dozen times and have outgrown it.

Free booze in literally every single hotel/casino you walk into, and you're buying it at CVS and drinking in your room?

That sounds like a blast.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you'd be having a lot less lame of a time if your tyrant of a mother in law wasn't with you.

All of which require paying 3x more than you would anywhere else.

1. So?

2. Many big cities are the same price unless you're going to their dive bars. Hell, I paid $45 for a bucket of Blue Moon at a VIP pool in Vegas. That's $8/beer... same price I paid for Corona in the Quarter last week.

Who goes to Vegas without the intention of spending a lot of $$$$? That's Vegas. Or Miami. Or NYC. Kinda just the product of visiting a tourist destination.

theres so much more to do than just casinos

the middle of a Nevada desert isn't so bad if you are used to Deep South summers. pretty pleasant actually

Well you're, like, old

I also didn't say it sounds so fun. Just that if you go to Vegas and claim it is overpriced, you're kinda living under a rock.

I mean, I've been planning things to do on my trip to Chicago coming up. All of the clubs have people bitching about lines, a-hole employees, expensive drinks, etc. in the clubs. It's like DUH. I may not be the "clubbing type", but if you don't know how to have a good time somewhere ...

Toss some $ around and get some drinks and enjoy where you are.

I get that you're going to be spending more per beer and per meal. That comes with the territory and I can deal with it. The rest of the 'Vegas experience' wasn't for me. We paid out the arse for a cabana at the Marquee so we could have some mediocre skanks follow us around and squeeze every last penny out of us. Everywhere we went someone was looking to shake us down. I despise the whole club scene and unfortunately that's what most of our group was looking to do. If I went back I'd do more of the outdoor stuff available. I drifted off on my own a couple times. I liked the cigar bar in Caesar's palace.

Yes, definitely. I don't think we made it to Red Rock, but we did visit the Hoover Dam. One of the most impressive things I've ever seen.

Understandable.

I decided today I won't be going to any of the clubs on my next trip either. All beer bars, dive bars, and cocktail lounges.

I think I could find a good time in Vegas just as well as anywhere though. A stool and a beer is fine for 5 days in a row Maybe I'm boring.

For guys, honestly, the best time to go is October-December. We have fun betting during the height of college football season, the weather is great, and the rates are actually pretty low that time of year.

You have to go knowing the city is ridiculously expensive. Sometimes you have that friend that hits big on craps or blackjack and the night is covered Other times, you gamble for 12 hours, stumble back to the room, and wake up wondering where your money went. It's just one of those things about Vegas. You have to go in expecting to spend X amount; otherwise, it's a disappointment IMO.

Also, the club scene in Vegas...not for me...but I'm not a 7 figure baller that can throw down 25-30k on a big night out with my boys in the VIP area of TAO

If you have time, take the short (few hours) drive to the Grand Canyon.

Just to clarify, you will see advertisements for the "West Grand Canyon" and "Skywalk" all over Las Vegas. PLEASE don't fall for it. There is no such thing as "West Grand Canyon" National Park. There is only one Grand Canyon NP (separated as North and South Rim's). The "West" and "Skywalk" are a gimmick and it's on Native American property, not associated with the National Park System. Drive the extra 1.5 hours to see the real deal (about 4 to 4.5 hours from LV, depening on which rim you go to).
