Doctors have to take the pay cut to make it affordable

insurance companies go away, and government takes over, then you get what UK has, which is free access to medical diagnosis services, and a long waiting que for actual medical services.
It's not just the UK, there a lot of countries that have universal healthcare. I have several Brit friends and none would want to switch to our model. They're pros and cons to both private and universal healthcare.

Then insurance companies would leave. Then who’s going to cover them?

You’ve got a point. I’ve seen people say procedures were cheaper if they paid out of pocket. Prescriptions, too. These managed health care companies are crooks. We need to return to old insurance where we pay our part and insurance covers their part over the deductible. No $25 copay and then deny coverage like now. Or having to fight for it.
