I tried once in college, but it didn’t involve a buddy. Girl A was into me, and I liked her. Then I met her roommate and really liked her. I tried the switch at a bar one night while really drink with disastrous results. Roommate wasn’t interested, hooked up with some random guy, Girl A got pissed. She ended up forgiving me and we got pretty serious for a few months, then she cheated on me. Karma is a bitch.
