Have you ever been in a coma?

I've discussed it a couple of times on here, so apologies, but I took a nice long nap two years ago and I'm still not recovered so the subject is interesting to me.
How long were you down?
How was your physical recovery?
Do you have memory of your coma (Dr's, visitors, etc)?

Short version-Went septic after a surgery and spent a few weeks in a coma. They never determined why. It was basically a long arse nightmare and when I woke up I couldn't move anymore and had to relearn how to do everything.

I was in a come for two weeks after a car accident. I probably would have woken up sooner but doctors kept me in a coma because my brain was pretty swollen. I had to spend a month in rehab after and when I was discharged I still had to go to months of outpatient therapies to regain certain skills. I have what is called post traumatic amnesia so I don't remember the day if the accident, obviously the time in the coma, or the 2 weeks after I came out of the coma. My first memories after are snipets of waking up and being terrified because I thought I had been kidnapped and was being experimented on in a hospital.

My first night after waking up I thought native Americans were attacking the hospital and scalping everyone.

Many OTers seem to be posting from a deep coma, so this thread should be interesting.

Same thing happened to me but it was only a week I think for me

I'm sure it was a terrifying experience, but it's kind of funny. You've been in a car accident, unconscious for two weeks, full of who knows what kind of drugs, wake up and can't remember any of that. You recognize that you're in a hospital, but dont know how you got there. After some period of deliberation, you somehow arrive at the illogical conclusion that you've been kidnapped for medical experimentation. Crazy how the mind works.

Yes, last month, out for four days. Physical recovery is better than was expected, my legs are still a little weak, and the more tired I am the more my hands shake. I don't remember anything that happened around or to me while I was out.
But...I am also going through chemo treatments. Between the coma and chemo, I feel like I am doing really well.

I fricked around and got some head and ate a turkey sandwich. Woke up three days later.

Wish I was in one now so I wouldn't have read this thread

I also thought they were doing experiments on me! I was paranoid for about a week after I got home.
I'm missing about a month of memory. I'm still finding out about stuff I did and things that went on around me going back several days before I went to the hospital. It's a very strange feeling when you find out about things you did, but have absolutely no memory of.

Closest thing to it would be when I died at 1 or 2 years of age. From what I understand they put a shot into my heart and here I am.
Don't remember a thing about it.

My son had something similar when he was 12. Head injury and they kept him in the coma for 3 days d/t brain swelling as you spoke of. To answer you other questions, he woke up with weakness to one side of his body. He walked like someone who had a stroke. He was hospitalized 2 weeks in total then started physical and/or occupational therapy. That worked pretty well and he got a lot of his motor skills back and eventually all or almost all of it back. His school grades never came all the way back. He struggled initially then eventually got to making mostly Bs and Cs, whereas he was a very strong student prior to the accident. His grades may have been partly due to him hitting puberty around the same time and his focus may have shifted some but the head injury definitely affected them initially. He’s 31 now and doing well. He told me several years ago he still gets dizzy doing certain things. I think sit ups were one of them. And no, I don’t think he has any memory of the time in the coma but I’m not positive about that.
