Did two hours for littering and creating a public nuisence. Wrote a pretty good song about that little incident on the Group W bench, though. In pencil.

This X1000. Of the 2.5 years I did my parish time was by far the worst.

FCC Coleman

Must have been before we built USP Coleman.
At the USP, while inspecting the seg unit, an a-hole closed the slider while I was in a cell.
The doors weren't wired yet so I had to spend an hour on the cool concrete waiting for the tools that would disengage the lock. They thought it was funny.

One think I learned, there are people who are more at home in prison than out. We've got a sizable portion of the population who are so accustomed to prison and have such a rap sheet, they can't function on the outside. They thrive in prison with the structure it provides. I ain't one of those people, learned that pretty quickly.

wtf for?

eta: I spent a night in the drunk tank after getting picked up for DUI. I was sleeping in my truck on the side of the road under an overpass in Arlington in November. I don't remember leaving the house I was at but I do know it was in the 20's that night, which leads me to believe I left the keys in the ignition to keep the heat on.

Woke up in jail. I guess I had driven about 50 miles, parked in a parking lot and went to sleep. Don't remember any of it. Other guys in that unit said I was messed up as hell when I came in, but hadn't taken any drugs or had no alcohol.

I had been sober for a week, probably had a sober blackout.

Wow. Your system couldn´t deal with the calm. You´re a strong man (as I well know you´ve overcome it, from myriad posts of yours which I´ve read).

Yeah, blew my mind. I went to a doc who specialized in patients in recovery and he told me it was pretty common and a dissociative disorder .

You're talking about institutionalization. The Character brooks in the movie Shawshank Redemption is a great example of this.

Yeah, I remember guys talking about where they wanted to end up when they were sentenced. They knew who the guards were at different facilities, other inmates doing time there. Most were nice guys, just seemed like they were in suspended adolescence and needed structure.

One guy spent two days outside before he realized he couldn't do it. Stole a boat so he'd get tossed back in with his friends. I saw a prison interview on a documentary where a fella said after a guy has been locked up so long, he has no business going back out into the population. They can't find meaningful work, don't have structure to keep them accountable.

Met some real characters in a short time. Gotta say that was the only bright point, there are some entertaining folk.

Wow, Roger. Small world.

I used to do a prison ministry there years ago.

Every Sunday afternoon teaching Sunday school.

Yeah, that wasn't my favorite day... Good thing I don't remember the first half of it.

Yeah, from my vantage point, those were pretty good days. Of course, when I got ready to leave the jail, I was still in Arcadia, so wasn't THAT great.

Yeah, can't say much about the town. Didn't see much of it. When they let me go, I was out of there. Still have no idea what I was doing over that way.

Had my dog with me. They had to call my brother to come pick her up that night.

Been to jail twice...

Once in St. Bernard for poss. of Methadone & poss. of Valium (both felonies) in December '06. I was in there 3-4 days; I could've easily gotten out but my dad called in a favor to make sure I couldn't bail myself out or call in any favors of my own. I went straight from jail to rehab, spent about 6 months there. All charges were dropped. I know I'll catch a lot of shite on here for this one but I was a 20 year old kid for frick's sake. I had a drug problem and I took care of it, going to jail saved my life.

Second time was in Goliad, TX in 2013 for public intoxication and illegal carrying of a firearm. Spent about 12 hours, bailed myself out and all charges were eventually dropped.

Curious how common this is.

Most young people (especially males) will go to jail for a night at least once in their lifetime. Usually it's for poss. of marijuana, DUI, fighting, or something along those lines.

I just spent 10 months, not only for something I didn't do, but something that never happened. It was a lie from the beginning. Told at every level from the cop who started it to the DA that kept it going.
