Fort Collins is a college town, too. CSU gives it a college town feel.

Boulder is a good bet. College town with plenty of beautiful women.

I lived in Colorado Springs for a year. It's alright-- but if I were you and assuming you are single i'd stay near Boulder/Ft. Collins or Denver. All really close to the mountains (well it's colorado..where ISN"T close to the mountains )

Late to the game... There used to be done affordable places off i70 in Wheatridge. When I first moved there I had a crappy studio on Kipling. You're 15 minutes from My. Zion in Golden.

Good luck.

Getting out of my current career field because it sucks the life out of me.

You did not go into much detail......

I was a computer analyst on large mainframes for decades. Very high pressure jobs. I would work for 10 years then quit and take 6 months off doing absolutely nothing. Then I would go back into the business. I really liked my job but had to take time off to recharge my batteries.

I never thought of changing career fields. But I learned to insist on the rest intervals. I also learned to tell people to quit making stupid mistakes and expecting me to clean up their mess.

I live here now. In Golden for over 27 years. The state is your canvas. At least most of it.
Boulder would be my last choice FWIW.....

Just got back from visiting the state. The places that impressed me the most were Trinidad, Montrose, Longmont, Silverton, Durango, and Colorado Springs. I get the feeling that Trinidad was the more laid back place to live, while CO Springs the busiest.

Denver was too damn big and traffic was worse than than the other areas we hit, but there's more big city shite to do. Silverton, Durango and Trinidad were beautiful, if I had to rank them, and then Montrose and Longmont. But you'd better learn to love snow if you live in those higher elevations.

Ridgely, outside of Montrose, has a clothing optional hot springs site. It was nice and the women were nice looking but there was a 5:1 man/woman ratio.

Trinidad is the Sex-Change capital of the U.S.

The last time I drove thru the Raton Pass, I was the last vehicle that got thru before they shut it down. I drove snow blind pulling a trailer and stayed the night in Trinidad. Never again.

It's fairly small, yeah, but some of it has that mid-sized city feel. It's in one of the flatter (but not totally flat) areas of the mountains and the higher mountains are not far away at all. The drive there is drop-dead gorgeous, but daunting in places as there are many sections of highway that have no guardrail. You do NOT want to attempt to drive there in the snow, so your visiting times will have to be planned for the summer months. Was in CO in April but we couldn't cross the mountains because most of the roads were closed due to snow.

Montrose has The Black Canyon which is really cool to see. You drive up the park and there are many scenic overlooks within. Google it. We saw deer walking along the road in many places, Hawks flying around, chipmunks, and on the way to Silverton we saw two bighorn sheep crossing the road. Great photos from that.

There are many places to camp, too. Blue Mesa is about 45 min out of Montrose and it is extremely beautiful as there is a big lake up there. Go, man. Colorado is so beautiful and varied in scenery that I think everyone should visit at least once in their life. Montrose is not terribly far from many attractions at all. The roads can be frightening if you can't handle a 1000 to 2000 foot drop next to you without a guardrail, but the trick is to focus on the yellow line on the road between the lanes.

It is worth it. Just make sure you go between May and early September.

I live in Loveland about an hour north of Denver.

Durango is great. Springs, Denver, Ft Collins, and Boulder all have their own personalities. For the most part, any town/city near the mountains you can't go wrong with in my opinion.

Greeley and east of there smells like cow poop.

I'm a big fan of the Glenwood Springs area. No one had mentioned it yet but it is a great place with tons of outdoor activities to do during both summer and winter. It's about 45 minutes from Aspen and an hour from Vail. Housing can get expensive in town, but there are plenty of smaller communities around with affordable housing. I spent 4 months there this summer and loved it. Definitely worth checking out of you don't have any place in particular you want to live.

I initially wanted to live near Denver but I got away from big city living and was very pleasantly surprised with my decision. I don't know if there would be a bad choice living anywhere west of I25. Just make sure you're going to be ok with long, and possibly brutal winters.

I work in Denver now, go home every week, and used to live in Colorado Springs some years ago. The Springs is very nice although growing, fairly conservative city with all the military and some religious foundations stationed there. Denver is ok but liberal as heck. Literally the tatoo and "f" bomb capital of the world, and would vote for the devil before anyone other than a democrat. And the traffic just freaking sucks. Lots to do though and you can hit I-70 and head west for some fun.
There are other places to go but it can get very expensive. The eastern side of the state is just 'west' Kansas but very cheap, avoid if you can. Good luck in your endeavors and Geaux Tigers...

I lived in Aurora while in the Army a little more than twenty years ago. Havent been back in a while so I'm not sure how Aurora has faired but I can say that I loved it back then. Although the winters got long the summer was nice. Not sweating through my drawers by nine a.m. was nice. People were genuinely friendly as most were transplants and looking to meet new people. Which is why I would stay close to the city if I were you. We used to hit Washington Park in Denver every summer weekend for pickup volleyball. Good times. You almost can't go wrong. Do it! Best of luck.

I lived in the Glenwood Springs area for almost 10 years and absolutely loved it. I would still be there but a job opportunity opened up overseas that I couldn't really turn down.

I'd move back to Glenwood tomorrow if I could.

I lived in Telluride for a summer. It's remarkably beautiful. Far from pretty much everything...if you're looking to get away, it's about the nicest place to get lost in.
