All of the gym rats love watching him work out and post videos. Chicks also like that.

Decent football player. Very popular wrestler. Much more popular actor. He's just a likeable guy. There's no way around it.

Don't forget, he's a hell of a cook.

The rock has 110 million followers on Instagram. Will smith has 17 million.

Will Smith started his Instagram like 2 months ago and was the fastest ever to reach 1million followers. The Rock had had his instagram for years

He focused on his social presence in accordance to being a Hollywood star. I’d say he is 1a) Instagram Fanous 1b) Movie famous. He went where the attention was. Will is climbing back by doing the same with daily vlogs

In the current landscape, yes. All time, probably close either way.

I was going to say at the moment, yeah obviously since will smith is off the radar. But I think people are underestimating just how big will smith was in his prime, FAR more popular than the rock IMO.

The Rock rose to fame in wrestling and became an icon, and now dabbles in movies. Great guy, funny, and popular to be sure. But will smith rose to fame in a TV show that people still watch, had not one but two multi-platinum albums, and was one of the bigger movie stars on the planet all within about a 7-8 year span.

Coming from the wrestling biz The Rock knows that when you’re making money as a top guy you have to strike while the iron’s hot. He was just taking roles, now, he’s able to take those high paying roles and parlay it into productions that he can take risks on, have fun with and compete against the big named franchises. That drive comes from his time in wrestling. Some things hit and some things don’t but taking risks is what takes you to another level.

The Rock turned Hollywood on it’s head with his hard work, entrepreneurial mentality and creativity. He is showing everyone what being a megastar is all about. He saw that most “stars” work only as hard as their publicists and agents tell them to. He forces his narrative and makes those people that work for him get up, get moving and be different than everyone else in entertainment. He’s not interested in being just another movie star. He wants to be the biggest of all time. It’ll always be up for debate and he’ll have his haters for sure but there’s no denying that Dwayne Johnson is in the discussion as being the top guy in Hollywood right now.

Weird because he keeps getting lead rolls in movies and tv shows. His movies keep making a frickton of money. I guess people love watching talentless hacks right?

Sometimes they do. I wouldn’t call the Rock talentless but he has no range as an actor. He plays the same character in every movie
