Fighting is one of those things everyone thinks they can do until they get matched up against someone infinitely more skilled and in peak cardio shape. Most average joes couldn't make it one 5 minute round before falling out exhausted.

Agree. I started BJJ 3 yrs ago a week or two after running a sub 2 hr half marathon (first and only, not suggesting it's impressive) assuming I'd be decent....wong. I'm chimp strong and athletic.... got my arse kicked over and over again. 6 min rounds are an eternity without grappling skills/conditioning.

It's a blast mopping the floor with trial class "athletes", cops training b/c they should and aggressively overconfident types. The wind leaves their sails, quickly.

TLDR: Punchers chance doesn't really exist with grappling. Do a trial class or two and you'll understand. Lotta fun and great exercise.

True. I’ve been training jits for 19 years. Actually started in no gi so can’t say the first couple counted lol. There is no real comparison for mat cardio other than maybe swimming and even swimmers who can’t control their breathing properly will gas. Wrestlers are honestly the most conditioned guys of any sport that crosses over to BJJ which is kinda obvious. I have seen legit wrestlers with no formal jits training wreck decent Blue Belts in their first class. Those guys elevate a BJJ class with the level of stamina they bring. Plus it really helps having the knowledge of good takedowns and defense.
