When I was a waiter in the fine dining restaurant atop the Stamford, Connecticut Marriott in 1990, one night 7 dudes came in the restaurant close to closing time. A couple of the other teams (worked in two waiter teams) turned down the cover, so assigned to partner and me. These dudes were mafioso straight out of central casting. Looked and talked like they just walked off the set of Goodfellas, and they stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl in Stamford - the heart of WASP country. They not only were pretty cool as customers, but ordered like 5 bottles of expensive wine with dinner, then like 10 shots of Louis XIII cognac after dinner. the bill was almost two grand and they left like a 20% tip on top of that. All the other waiters that gave up the cover were really regretting it the next night.
eta: Because they ordered so much of the cognac, they finished one bottle, and my manager gave the main dude the empty bottle which is made out of crystal.

I'm laughing my arse off at this thread because everyone has used the word "whacked" to refer to someone getting killed. Buncha nerds
