Has anyone been to San Marcos?

I am thinking about checking out the area this summer for a few days, both for sightseeing and also to check out the campus of Texas State University, as I will be continuing college and, much as I hate to say it, the grass looks greener on the other side when the topic is college education. Any shared experiences would be appreciated.

Do you like to party? San Marcos is college party central.

Great college town. Fine bitches everywhere.
I used to float the San Marcos and Comal river all the time growing up, but I believe now that the counties have made it against the law to take beer cans or anything that could result in trash in there so it's mad floating really hard to do.
No clue if that's still the case, but that's what we switched to the Frio river for floating.
If you go be sure to check out Cheatham Street Warehouse if you're into music. King George used to play there with Ace in the Hole.
ETA: Was down there last month for a concert at Gruene Hall, that's another cool place to check out if you like music.
Jacob's Well is also nearby in Wimberly.

Beautiful campus in the most scenic part of the state. I would definitely check it out if I were you. Tons of things to do in the area and the academic side of the school is on the upswing.

Good to know. I'd also like to be in anarea where I can learn Spanish. I see no barriers at that location.

just spent the entire day there, walking the square, doing a bit of a pub crawl. Always great to go back and see old friends.
its exploded in the past few years. I remember when I could count all the bars on the square on one hand.....now, there are well over a dozen bars, and even more in construction. It's crazy to see how much its grown in the last 2 years
such a great town

So it is a walkable town? How much do you rely on your vehicle?
Posted on 2/21/16 at 11:49 pm to JeanPierre
You want a car if you are spending time in hill country. The square you can park and bar hop and no car is needed.
If you want a nice scenic drive check out devil's backbone. I live about 20 minutes away so re post when you come visit! I will let you know if I hear of any events.

San Marcos is a wonderful town to get fricked up in... But if you are leaving LSU to go to Texas State ( by choice) then you are making the biggest mistake of your young life.

this
if you cant have a good time at Southwest Texas State Teachers Normal College than you must really be a stick in the mud.

Nah I wouldn't be leaving LSU. The college that I do have under my belt was at Nicholls. I don't regret it or have anything against Nicholls btw. I think it is vital to the parishes it serves. I just don't trust our legislators not to frick us bad in the coming years. A Constitutional Convention which focuses on saving higher education would make me continue there, but I'm not getting any more Incomplete grades, especially not at our inept government's expense.

I lived there for a while it's great

Ahhh, Texas State University...the school for fine sluts who were too busy sucking dick in high school to make the grades needed to get into University of Texas, but still want to be close to and party in Austin.
