To add to this a bit, as of now, models are showing a setup favorable for intensification over the western Gulf. Harvey has some high end potential.
Extremely rapid intensification... conditions are relatively shite in the southern GOM, but once it moves north it'll bomb.

We could use the rain! Was planning a trip to BR, guess I'm canceling that too as the discussion involves this storm taking a turn to the east also .

It's crazy that this storm could make landfall as a hurricane in less than 96 hours and majority don't know of existence.

Google Hurricane Humberto from 2007. It made landfall in Texas and Louisiana and intensified so rapidly most didn't know it was out there until it moved on shore.

I remember Humberto cluster of storms to a Hurricane in a little over 24 hours.

Have to wait and see, RI is still almost impossible to predict and we see lots of favorable setups that don't produce. Motion of the ULL and timing of softwaves in the northern flow are hard to predict and will play a big role in establishing a healthy outflow channel that is needed for RI.

This isn't looking too good.
Literally went from getting the all clear from our weather service at work (oil and gas), to them sending out an "oh shite" early this morning... wtf

Must have been paying too much attention to the eclipse

Chron.com (Houston Chronicle) has nothing on Harvey on the 1st page.
KHOU.com - "Increased rain potential for weekend"
KPRC site - nothing
Too busy covering the eclipse, statues of dead men, and other hurt feelings nonsense.
but you watch by the 5PM news today, it'll be doom and gloom coverage.

Yeah...Chita didn't have shite on this storm this morning. However, you can bet your arse that David Paul woke up with a huge boner and will be all over this for the 4:00 news. He's probably on his way right now to dig Dr. Frank out of his crypt to dust him off for a cameo.

I was just searching everything on twitter and nobody is talking about it.... Wild

I texted a relative this morning that lives two blocks from the beach in Galveston and she had no clue that something might be forming

yep. by the 5-6 PM news today it'll be "preparing for Hurricane Harvey Apocalypse" news coverage.
i just bought a house this summer. am paying for my wedding single-handedly in November. I wish i could run to Lowes at lunch break to stock up on supplies and buy a generator. But the cash flow is low at the time. And of course, it could all be a waste if this thing takes a detour or never picks up strength when back in the Gulf.

Ehh, the problem is it won't be a hurricane this evening, and people simply don't give a shite about a tropical disturbance.
This is a good example of why the potential tropical cyclone warnings are a good addition this year.

Yeah I see zero issue in getting people prepared. I love the outrage when not much comes of a storm and people are pissed that they were ready for it.
