So I’ve been having an itch to ride. I’ve never ridden a motorcycle before, but I feel like I have a good enough understanding that it wouldn’t take much to get on and go. I almost bought a fatbob for a good price, but slept a little too long on it so I’ve put my attention to an iron 883.
I’ve been watching these vids on YouTube from a dude named blockhead and I can’t decide whether he gets on my nerves or not, but I can’t stop checking it out because it is informative and looks fun as hell, besides the 883 just looks cool as shite when you customize it.
So any of you guys that ride, is it a good idea to get into it or should I subdue my demons with all of the texting idiots that don’t pay attention to the road? Has riding become too dangerous these days?
I have a few friends that ride and a few that use to ride and none of them have taken the MSF course, but all of them have said it’s a wise decision to do so.
Thoughts? Advice? Say some dumb shite?

You probably need to a low powered bike to start with. You will lay it down at some point. Better start with a cheap bike.

That’s what I was thinking and I can get an 883 for a decent price for a first bike.

I agree. 1000cc+ bikes are heavy. If you've never ridden, anticipating corners, handling, etc. needs to be learned.

I started with a Harley Ultra Classic, go big or go home. Just take it easy until you get really comfortable with it. I haven’t laid it down in 4 years.

That would be about the last motorcycle I'd ever want to own. They're archaic in the worst sense of the word, and underpowered.

Sportys are top heavy and under powered. Start with a used Dyna they have more lean angle than a soft tail. The new mono shock frame bikes ride really nice. I prefer touring bikes myself but they are heavy for a beginner but you can learn on them just be prepared for the weight at low speed. Take the MSF and go for it.
