I've flown the AC-130H, AC-130U, AC/MC-130W, but never with the guns installed, sadly.

I hope to get qualified on the AC-130J before I retire.

Was stationed in Biloxi in the late 70's. Girl I worked with her husband was a navigator on the C-130 hurricane hunters.

I confess that I am not well-versed in all the variants of this aircraft. I just know is that he flies the gunship for the USAF and that it is a badass plane. My daughter knows more than I do; I’m just a mother-in-law who is proud of him for serving our country.

He did tell my husband and I that the basic plane has a lot of variations for different purposes. What are the ones you have flown used for?

Nope, no A models at all.

If he's still flying them, it's got to be the AC-130J. I think the last of the U models are in the boneyard now and the H models have been there for a decade or so.

A little more than 2 years. It'll give me 20 AD and 28 total.

He’s still young, and he really just started flying them in the last couple of years, so he has many years to go. It’s a good thing he loves what he does!

Ignore 777Tiger!
That douchebag used to routinely enter threads and claim shite that never happened or that he knows little to nothing about. Seems like some sort of compulsion.

I've not only jumped out of many of them ... I've safetied and Jumpmastered many a stick out of many of them.

They are, without a doubt, my favorite troop carrying bird. They're the greatest ever made imho.

My sister was born in 79 (also in Dover), so it had to be around 76-78 that he was in Biloxi Hurricane Hunting. I’ll ask my mom to be sure.

His initials were ACK. frick cancer. Please let me know if you may have known him and I’ll post more details. If you did we have to get in touch. God I miss him.

That's a bit before my time, back when the Hurricane Hunters were active duty.

Agreed. Took my mom earlier this year. Not looking forward to football season as much, our section will be a little quieter and those away games, my phone won't be blowing up about the refs missing calls.

I've dropped thousands at the BAC @ Benning. Used to love to see how many sticks we could get in a day, and trying to land a straight in, directly after red light, was always a challenge.

It’s amazing that the C-130 and the B-52 were designed and developed shortly after WWII, but both are still in use today, over 70 years later.
