I never got a hangover until a couple of years ago, for me it has to do with a compound lack of sleep.
At 20 I could drink half the bar and wake up 4 hours later and brush my teeth with a beer.

When I was in HS/college I could drink a case of beer and wake up the next morning and run a marathon. One morning in my Junior year at LSU I woke up really early feeling poorly, it progressed through the day, with every hour getting worse, until some time towards early afternoon I started puking. I would not feel better until the following day.
That's how it was from that point forward. It would interrupt my sleep pattern, I'd wake up early, be nauseated and have a headache, and every hour it would get worse.
I also found out I was allergic to beer. So I did not have a beer from 2006 to 2016. I went to Ireland this past June, stopped in at Guinness, had a single beer knowing it would wreck me-and had that same disrupted sleep pattern, rot gut and a headache the entire next day. Still worth it.
I stick to whiskey, water , pre-sleep hydration and going to bed at a reasonable time. Or I lose the next day. Getting older changes things.

My hangovers went from nausea and migranes in my 20's and 30's....to just a thick, heavy fog that stuck around for a couple of days. Not a good feeling either way.

I've found as I get older that my hangovers are more impacted by what I drank that night as opposed to water I chugged before bed or any next day remedies.
If I drink a shite ton of beer, I'm gonna be hungover, period. It's so heavy, and I don't know if it's the wheat or what, but my stomach will feel like death the next day. Same thing if I drink a bunch of liquor with sodas. I eat very little sugar normally and never drink sodas so the sugar kills me.
Nowadays I just drink liquor straight or with water, and I never feel awful the next day. I definitely don't feel 100%, but I'm soooo much better than I used to be, and it doesn't really matter how sauced I got as long as it wasn't off a ton of beers and/or liquor with soda.

I'm pretty sure a trained, experienced substance abuse expert would say you've got a problem. Nice try on the rationalization though.

Enjoy it my friend. Because when you hit 30, a 4 hour hangover turns into a 2 day hangover.

Hangovers got significantly worse around 22-23 for me. Prior to 22-23, I could get fricked up, wake up, drink a water and eat breakfast, and start again (Spring break type situation). If I get drunk now, you can count me out for anything for a day, and drinking for 2.

35 and as long as I quit early enough, I am fine, no matter the amount.
