I'm afraid you don't really understand the concept of genetic predisposition and gene expression that adversely affects 15% of the world's population.

You can believe whatever you want, but you should also consider the possibility you may be wrong. Mental diseases are literally impossible to understand from an unaffected brain's perspective.

If more people in our country thought like this, I'd have much more hope for my children's future.

A little more humility and a little less judgement goes a long way people.

This is what happens when society shuns those who use drugs. We need less money in the prison system and more focus on the rehabilitation of drug addicts.

Unfortunately lots of people don't understand addiction.

That's too bad, because if not for people like you, maybe we could finally get a grip on this as a society. But as long as ignorance prevails, nothing's going to change.

Addiction is a real fricking disease.

People who say it isn’t just don’t have it. Good for them

Also, mental illness and addiction usually go hand in hand. They do for me

Are you serious here? I’d say the majority of people on this board posting things defending this shite is more of a problem than the guys condemning it

Great friend of mine lost a 24 year old son earlier this year. Same story - progressed from pills to heroin. Mother found the bathroom door locked early on a Saturday morning. My buddy wasn’t home so a mutual friend walked down to unlock the door. Kid died in front of the door and they had to push it open to get in. Body was already cold so he obviously went in the bathroom during the night to shoot up and passed away shortly thereafter.

Can’t explain the devastation it has caused this family. The mother also lost her brother to an OD 10 years ago. As someone said in an earlier post, drugs are indiscriminate.

Prayers for you, your friend and your families.

Alpha tough guy shite? Haha, no. Just surprised at the amount of people defending opioid abuse on here. I’m sorry if that offends you

I don't even have anger towards a post like this. It's equal parts ignorance, fear and confusion. I've been there.

You don't even know how lucky you are that you get to be that ignorant of mental illness. And make no mistake about it. It's pure luck.

there is a lot more of this happening to all walks of life than people realize. the heroin is laced with a cocktail of drugs that would kill an elephant.

We lost our son a year ago tomorrow to this scourge.

Coroner showed us the drug panel...no human could have survived the amount of fentanyl and other stuff in the mix.

WHY?

I saw in the obits that Pepper Rutland lost his son this week.

I hate this so much.
thoughts and prayers. a good friend is going through it now with her son. she went through over 50K in rehabs. to no avail, her sons best friend just died from a heroin OD and it was laced with fentanyl, xanax, ativan, and one other drug I forget. the group that her son hangs with are all addicts and I asked her if her sons best friends funeral woke him up. she said, the few remaining in the group got high and went to the funeral.

her son started with pot, rx narcotics bought on the street- then meth, onto heroin. he ODed in an ER and was brought back and recently had a stroke. she is resolved to the fact that there is nothing she can do. he and his friends get 5K credit cards online and go on binges and travel.

any advice for her?

ETA: her son is manic depressive and refuses regular meds.

It’s crazy how many folks are hooked.
Is it? Drs prescribing them like candy years ago to get the patients hooked. Now they can't get their pills and turn to the black market. No surprise there.

That 64k from opiode deaths is more than car wrecks.

My blessing to the op. "Everything and everyone is on loan from god. "
If we forget or deny that, then we get angry with god.
Accept it now, and every day. Make loving your duty.
Accept reality.

Peace.
