OMG your kids won't see their aunt, uncle, and cousins for a few years

I understand they feel like they are being called but I'm afraid they don't understand the dangers of this.

My parents are begging her to reconsider but all she says is they can't ignore this calling.
Oh, and they probably need some kind of psychiatric evaluation.

Any way we can stop this or are they blinded by this fantasy to save the world?
Sounds like you might be the blind one.
Your whole post reads like a parody.

They just appear to be dead set and don't consider the practical things in life like retiring, raising our kids together, etc.
Are you a Christian? Do you think Jesus cares about your retirement savings?
Are you kidding me with this thread?

My mom is not in good health and this will send her into a depression.
This will be good for your mom.

My son will not know his aunt or uncle or his cousins.
He'll get a good example of people who prioritize service.

Our relationship will never be the same
Good. You have a faulty relationship now whether or not you realize it because you don't trust your brother to make his own decisions and live his life.

I know this isn't the best place for real advice but my family and I are desperate. My sister and her husband are 24, very good Christian people. They have a home, good jobs, close to us, etc. They feel like they are being called to up and sell their home and start a life of mission work for the foreseeable future. In January, they will be going to Tijuana for 11 months for training before being placed in another country. I don't understand how someone could put themselves in such a dangerous place at will. I understand they feel like they are being called but I'm afraid they don't understand the dangers of this. They just appear to be dead set and don't consider the practical things in life like retiring, raising our kids together, etc.
This is killing us. My son will not know his aunt or uncle or his cousins. Our relationship will never be the same and we will all be in a constant state of worry. My mom is not in good health and this will send her into a depression. My parents are begging her to reconsider but all she says is they can't ignore this calling.
Any way we can stop this or are they blinded by this fantasy to save the world?
Most of your family sounds like they suck as human beings. Most except the ones you are trying to stop.
My sister and Bro in law want to go out and make the world better! Mommy and me will miss them, how do we make them not want to make the world better?
Really man, grow the frick up...

Seems like two Christian adults doing what they feel they have to do.

The OP reads like someone who falls all over himself to thank people in uniform for their service and talk about how patriotic he is, but craps his pants the minute a family member talks about joining the military.

I did mission work in Central and South America and only once met a lady, she and her husband ran a school. The guys I went with were legitimate in their intent and work, but by no means pushovers exactly the opposite. The subject of sincere individuals wanting to serve was discussed a few times and the pastor said many think that their good intentions and faith are all they need to be safe. But bad people see the weak and exploit their naïveté. It's a hard gig and involves dealing with those in need and in our case taking children away from pedophiles, criminals, and many times in places where the government is not necessarily cooperative. That said I'm not an organized religion man nor Christian, but helping people was one of the highlights of my flying career.
