Cases like this are difficult. I don't know how they could prove this is rape. Sounds like one person's word against another's.

This x 1000. I stopped hooking up with randoms once it occurred to me that all the girl had to do was have a change of heart and cry rape and I was screwed.

If there was any indication this girl did not want some form of sexual intimacy, her two friends would have never let this guy drive her home, especially after a night of drinking.
The boyfriend needs to man up and check out of this relationship based on his girlfriend's egregiously bad judgment.

It's not necessarily the facts that count.
This guy's life is ruined no matter how this plays out. Even if he's exonerated. All most people ever remember is the accusation.

This is probably true. My friends and I have, on more than one occasion, taken the drunk party home and gone back out. We do not let our obviously intoxicated friend leave with some random or barely known guy.
