This … the next question is usually .. oh do do you know x, y, z. I knew them bc ….

For most it doesn’t seem like a pride thing, but an quick way to narrow the world down and find common ground with someone new.

If you grew up in “Mobile”, then you should know it’s exactly the same. I know what you’re talking about in your OP, because I grew up in it. Left it on purpose, but Mobile is exactly the same. And I have the same reaction you do when someone finds out I’m not “Mobile” and they stop talking to me. They just walk away.

And the cliques between McGill, UMS, St Paul, or public schools…

No, it’s simply human development. The person you are raised to be up until 11/12 coupled with the formation of your character and environment in which you are educated from ages 12/13-17/18 has a much larger effect on you than what/where you study from 18-22 or what career you choose thereafter.

My boss, age 62 remembers almost every second of HS. I'm three years younger and don't remember this morning.

My grandpa was born and raised in New Orleans. This was the 1930s and early 40s, but he went to Holy Cross. He said that he fought every day of the week. He passed another school walking to his school and he said every day those kids would wait for him. It didn't matter if he got the best of them or they got the best of him. If someone was walking with him, then him and that person would fight them. Same thing on the way home. He said during football season there were days they didn't fight when he was walking home because they would be done with practice, but if they were around they would fight again. He said they fought each other for no other reason than they went to different schools.

I know for him, that established some pride into where he went to school. He moved from New Orleans when he was a sophomore in HS and he joined the boxing team because there wasn't anyone around just willing to fight.. These are stories he told us, but although he didn't graduate from HC he was always proud of the fact he went there. I would imagine that part of that element plays a factor in how things evolved in NO people being obsessed over where they went to HS, but there is nothing wrong with having a little HS pride.

The good high schools instill self discipline, challenging youth to strive for more, embrace faith and charity, have a positive sense of community, etc. Overall the NOLA area has horrible schools. The high schools you have all heard about are likely far above the rest. So when the time comes to offer someone a job, meet someone to marry, or become involved in a social circle, it is normal to ask what high school you went to. Then when you meet alums from your school, or even a competing school, you can relate to them and share a common background with the education process, which goes way beyond academics.

thankfully, that bitch moved

But I did have an incident at my house the other day. Had to call BRPD. Took them 20 minutes to respond.

I posted about it, and now I hate BR more

No, think it was as follows...

Holy Cross defeated Jesuit, 7-0, before the year's largest crowd, upward of 20,000, in a great defensive battle Saturday night at City Park Stadium, to win the Catholic schools' gridiron championship.  Victory enabled the Tigers to finish their 1963 regular season campaign with an undefeated but once tied record

dude, I grew up in the city of New Orleans - I know that

The problem with BR is the delusional people that think it’s better than NOLA.

BRPD only showed up because I said I had to get my shotgun out. The last 3 times we’ve had to call (one of those being at my work place) they haven’t shown up.

*fixed my grammar
