Not really
Well paying law enforcement jobs on the parish/county level exist in some areas, but they are not the norm. I applied for a job with the Calcasieu sheriffs office after college. After the interview process I received a call offering me a job. I literally laughed when they told me what the pay was. I had a professor tell me that people expect law enforcement agencies to hire people with high academic achievements, the temperament of a Buddhist monk, and the moral fiber of the apostle Paul....while getting paid half of what they could earn in a different occupation. Even the ones that meet those desirable qualifications, aren't likely to be who people meet on random traffic stops. Those specimens are in a position like that for a short time and move on up the ladder.

Pay here is between 60k and 100k. Not counting OT. It's that way along much of the West Coast.

That's thankfully coming to an end due to the technological marvel of camera phones. The days of the renegade cop is coming to an end. They have assholes in every profession and luckily no one films me when I'm being a douche.

For state, fed, or local?

Gretna police saw it, and went out of their way to go after him. I'm completely impressed by their initiative. They had a shitty cop, and did the right thing.
Except that is not what happened. None of the other officers in the video said a word about it to anyway. They only discovered the tape after investigating an unrelated incident.

Gretna police didn't learn of the incident until about two weeks ago, when they opened an internal inquiry into another, unrelated matter.

Yeah, the average pay for an officer in Anchorage is 76k. Here in Juneau it's around 73k.

That's outstanding for a popo. That would be a no-brainer for me if I were in the profession, as long as the cost of living is bearable.

How much do chemists/lab technicians make up there?
Posted on 9/16/16 at 6:42 pm to TrapperJohn
Starting pay here for officers with prior experience is 65k. For someone with no prior experience it's 61k.

So my statement of some BR officers make nearly $200,000 still stands correct. Not so dumb after all.

Wow. I wonder if those overtime hours count toward hours worked for retirement?

Those figures don't even include the extra duty pay many of them get for working various security details, which are paid outside of the department payroll. Those can get pretty lucrative also.

I know some of those hours as well are misleading because every time they have to go to court for a case it counts as overtime hours.
