A few people and I were sitting outside last night around midnight enjoying a fire. We go to tamp it down and go in, but start looking around at the stars as the light dims down.

After a few minutes of looking, there’s suddenly a bright green flash around 12:02.

I only saw the flash in my periphery because I had glanced down for a second, but it was incredibly bright and very quick.

My brother says he saw a streak. He said he heard a crack followed by a short rumble.

Did we see a meteor explode? It was crazy looking. Anyone ever see something similar? Did anyone see it themselves?

You're supposed to pee on the fire to put it out.

Wait so first you tamp a fire out. Second your brother says he heard a boom and rumble but you were standing next to him and you didn’t hear it. Are you still drunk from last night???

Way too high apparently. It was in the direction of the moon. Clearly not in space, just facing that way.

You saw a nickel based meteor disintegrate in the upper atmosphere. It was likely the size of a golf ball.

Could be some remnants of the Geminid meteor show. Supposed to have peaked about 10 days ago. I saw one of the brightest and most colorful ones I've ever seen this year, about 2 weeks ago. Fainter ones just look like thin streaks. But you wouldn't have heard any sound from a meteorite.

It definitely happened. It’s on all my security cameras at 12:01 roughly 40 seconds after the minute.
