I loved the parish. Buccaneer Villa North. Vista Bucs..mid 80's. Could ride my bike to all the practices. Holy Cross for high school, drive through daquiris and straight up st. Claude to the quarter. I didn't even know it was allowed for black people to live in my neighborhood!

Nothing like one of those concession stand hamburgers and a bag of Funyons to go along with it.

If you ate at the Carolyn Park concession anytime from '83-'92 it was probably cooked by my mom. She was always making shite and everything was homemade except the fries. They got those from Schwegmann's.

Wanna know the secret to those burgers? She would partially fry them at the house in a cast iron skillet so they wouldn't fall apart then move them to a giant electric roasting pan with water, some pan drippings and lots of onions.

The more you know.

eta: And how could I forget the powder puff games.

Played against Glenn at Vista. I was on the Ryan Gab, Pat Garrity teams

I played on teams with Ryan's older bro, Rae. We were the original BMX crew from Buccaneer Villa North also.

I thought it was Carolyn Ct? Walt Leger lived over there too. Grew up with his sons.

I'm probably a couple years younger than you.

Well, trying to keep my anonymity, I lived right across the street from Gene Leger, the Rajun Cajun. The guy that Vista park was named after.

frick. I lived at the 40 arpent. We used to shimmy across that pipe to the other side and go to the pumping station where the "big" turtles were.

Y'all flooded as much as we did.

Yeah, we'd cross the pipe and catch snakes along the flood wall. I spent every day in the woods between Buccaneer and Carolyn Park, or in my pirogue on that canal. Still tell my kids about it all the time. The old man who ran the pumping station would watch porn all day - think his name was Dutch.
