Just because you don't jump on the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch is larger than Texas and filled with garbage" bandwagon does not mean you disregard pollution as an issue. It is reactionary shite like

I know you are being sarcastic, but honestly I feel pretty close to this statement. It just seems like there are so many other problems in the world, I just don't give any fricks about the "environmental problems" we have, many of which I think are made up or blown way out of proportion.

This. Some dateline type show rode out in a boat and dragged nets across it. The trash isn't nearly as dense as it's made to sound. You could swim in it and not really know you were. It's worth noting because the currents push everything there, but it's not a big ball of floating trash.
