There may be another reason - a DINO (divorce in name only).
If both you and your spouse have enough quarters and you divorce before you start collecting SS, you will each get your full SS (as opposed to a "household" offset).
Also, the "poor" spouse can qualify for Medicaid and SNAP.
"Ex" spouse changes their mailing address to their office and there you go.

The mortgage rate isn’t what prevents people from buying houses most of the time. It’s the base price of $400K or more on average across the country.
A lot of banks want a large % down of the base price of the home. How many people are actually able to put 3-5% down in a $400,000 house let alone 20% to avoid the PMI. Even if they can put the 3-5% down to actually buy the house, they become house poor as the majority of their income goes to a mortgage. It’s unsustainable.
I get this whole thread has turned into a boomer bashing thread, and of course the boomers are going to take it personally, but this current generation is facing a financial crisis in which we’ve never seen and honestly, it’s going to get worse.
