"the project is being financed in part by $10 million of federal New Markets Tax Credit allocation."
Odds are bankrupt in 1 year and 10 million $ loss to US taxpayers, but millions in the pocket of the "entrepreneurs".

Just pointing out that Ruston, higher percentage of white, has always maintained a grocery

Grambling is an absolute shithole, that store will either get shoplifted into bankruptcy or absolutely trashed.
Now they've got someplace to loot and set afire next time there's social unrest!

They are going to need to essentially have the National Guard working security. Rifles at ready, hundreds of cameras, horse mounted police outside, dogs on standby. Hundreds of cavity searches per day.
Dont think they will last a year.

In America, if there is a reasonable profit to be made, someone will incur the risk and do the work.
Draw whatever inferences you choose, but there are some reasonable ones that will make folks uncomfortable. That's all I'm saying.

This place should be audited on a monthly basis. They’ll have their fair share of shoplifting and employee theft but I’ll guarantee there are people at the top who plan to skim profits if any are available. I predict epic failure.

For something with “Legends” in the name, I expected much better.

Grambling is about half that size. with around 5,000 residents, its the size of New Roads or Marksville.
But New Roads has 3 or 4 grocery stores. Marksville has at least 3.

Michael Brooks - Former Ruston High Bearcat, LSU Linebacker and Denver Bronco. Owns a bar called Legends in Grambling, bet he has something to do with this.
played for the Denver Broncos, the New York Giants, and the Detroit Lions.[1] He was an All American college football player at Louisiana State University for the LSU Tigers football team

I had heard that Michael Brooks was associated with the development, but I'm not sure beyond that. There's a strip center attached that has a Hibbet Sports and a couple of other shops. Football season can't get here quick enough because up to now the parking lot stays empty.
Also, there is a walkway alongside the grocery store that has posts with plaques, which I assume honor some of the area's greats. I haven't taken the walk.

This thread turned out to be very predictably racist

Pre injury, arguably the best linebacker to ever play at LSU, and that includes the Bradie James, Mike Andersons, and so forth of the world.
Again, pre injury, the only comparable player I can think of is Derrick Thomas that I also saw play live. That's the highest compliment I can pay to a college linebacker - comparing him to Michael Brooks or Derrick Thomas.

Good for their city. Food deserts are a major issue in many communities. I think the “30 min round trip” excuse is laughable for anyone with a car. However, that is a big deal for someone relying on public transportation.

I can't remember exactly but I don't think he ever walked on a football field until he was a sophomore in high school.
He had an unfortunate nickname at the time that would be a political fail now days. Grape Ape
I think there was a cartoon at the time that he was nicknamed after.
