I had them fitted for me when I was a much better golfer and played competitively, like a 3-4 handicap.
Now I'm like a 10-12 and they aren't easy. I'm getting better again though and they help me shape shots out of the trees
I played Sunday and turned a corner I think. The "feel" around the greens is the last thing I'm gonna get back and its so frustrating because I use to have a killer short game
im in the exact same position, used to be a 2 back when I was playing competitively in high school, started drinking and chasing tail, then joined the navy, and didnt really play for years. I can still hit the ball well, but if I miss the green I may as well go ahead and write in double bogey because theres no way I'm getting up and down, probably not even up, up and down

Ditto.
And I have a few shots each round that are total "WTF's".
I skulled a 20 yard chip shot 50 yards over the green on Sunday. All I could do was laugh and open another beer
That kind of shite did not happen back in the day. I just have no confidence 30 yards in anymore.
ETA:
What I've been doing that's working, is strategically avoiding those distances. I can hit a full swing shot well still, so I'll play to the 150 stake consistently and hit a full 9 iron or PW depending on wind/elevation. That has shaved like 4-5 strokes off my score.
Eventually I'm going to have to re-learn the feel with my wedges though. Hoping a light bulb just comes on soon.

same, i actually ordered a pitching basket/net deal yesterday that i am going to practice with in the backyard just to get some feel back
if im in the fairway 10 yards short of the green now, instead of pitching i putt!

one of the biggest things for me was just to ensure i was accelerating through the ball, I keep trying to cradle it and place it and get tentative in my swing, if i just make sure i accelerate it usually gets rid of the chunk, but then I may skull it to the next tee box, but at least the grass is short there

I will putt from EVERYWHERE
I putted from the thick stuff a few times on Sunday. My old swing coach used to say "think about worst case scenario of a chip and a putt...then make your decision on what to do"
Worst case these days with a chip is next level bad
I think I'm going to a the chipping green and range for like 8 hours this weekend and not grabbing any club with less loft than my gap wedge.

we dont have a range in mandeville for some reason, gotta drive to slidell, no practice facility at all unless i join beau chene, but i want to make sure im back into it for real before i start shelling out that $. Joined english turn for about 6 months a couple years ago, but never got back into it, didnt have anyone to play with way out there. Have a good group of guys now who all seem to be buying in so hopefully i stick to it this time

It was all about getting a group of guys for me as well.
I FINALLY have a solid foursome in Nashville that is always willing to play and play for money, which gets my competitive juices flowing so I actually focus and improve.
I am hoping to get 20+ rounds in this summer and get my handicap to 7 or below. Really want to stop shooting in the 80s.

I'd say my distance for my 3 wood is about 240 and my 3 iron about 220
If I were you I would try and consolidate those 2 clubs into 1. I only carry a Driver, Driving Iron or 5 Wood and 3 iron. I like it because it allows me an extra wedge and helps to eliminate the internal debate on the tee box. I can hit the DI or 5W 230ish. If the hole is tight enough to consider not hitting driver, I want to be damn sure I put it in the fairway and not get tempted to try and cheat out an extra 15-20 yards with a 3W.

I just came back from a shoulder injury/surgery that kept me from playing for about a year. Started back up a couple weeks ago, and any time I'm inside 80ish yards, I'm lost.
I make a bunch of pars because I can hit the green in regulation decently well as long as I can take close to a full swing, but if I miss it then I'm pretty much scoring double or worse.

I have a 40 yard gap between my 3hybrid(245ish) and my 3W(285ish) so I'm interested as well.
Bubba Watson?

When i could still play. Nothing, I rarely find that distance common enough to warrant it's own club. Closest thing I have would be a 7 wood, but I use it for any distance between 185-225, and just adjusted my swing speed accordingly. I could play 95% of my game with 5 clubs. Driver, 3 wood, 7 wood, pitching wedge, and putter.
I'm thinking about going to a driving range soon. I haven't played since my shoulder surgery 3 years ago. Swinging still makes me nervous.
