my so's sister in law, had a family member set one up, because they have a kid who has autism, and wanted to get him a service dog (the dog cost around 13k). the kids sister made a "spoof" of taylor swifts blank spaces, and posted it. taylor ended up seeing the video and donated 10k for the kid to get the dog.

A local guy here passed away in a plane crash leaving behind a wife, 3 kids under 5 and a 4th on the way. Last I checked that had used GoFundMe and raised over $50,000 for the family. That's the only time I can personally recall seeing someone I know use it positively.

Actually no, I don't know of anyone I regularly associate with doing one. Not saying there is anything wrong with it, just haven't been faced with one on a personal level.

There was a pizza delivery guy who was murdered here in Bham back in December of 2014. His daughter worked for the same company that I do. Someone started a GoFundMe for her mom to buy house because she didn't work and lived in an apt. Raised $300K and bought a brand new house with new furnishings, etc.
