Not at all but people take it to the absolute extremes. This is a low risk, high tolerable situation that can help her: 1. Deal with difficult people, 2. Understand that the real world means dealing with uncomfortable situations 3. Toughing things out.
The problem is finding a balance. People do nothing or remove everything.
I tend to coddle my kids, but this is something that's a growth experience that they can learn from. Don't deprive them of dealing with buttholes. Thats real world lessons. They're everywhere.

helping your child out with a temporary living situation (while they're also trying to manage a college courseload) isn't depriving her of dealing with assholes. as you said, they're everywhere.

Make sure they go through all the steps to remove her from the lease first. Really. I’ve seen this go bad so many times and I don’t want to see her responsible for damages they cause. She’ll probably forfeit her right to the deposit but that’s better than trusting these idiots to pay rent and not break things.

She entertained them for awhile because she was worried for their safety but they were definitely taking advantage.
I’m actually pretty proud of her for standing up for herself. It’s more like her to stay put in a bad situation to avoid rocking the boat.

Her roommates changing the locks and ganging up is a little worse than sucking.
