My dad was something called a functioning alcoholic. Never affected his job at all. Drank after work and on weekends only. Severely affected his relationship with his children.

My sister and her BY drink around their kids.
They always ask me if I want something and I say no. Doesn't set good example for kids and I don't want my nephew remembering me that way.

I would agree getting shitfaced in front of your kids doesn't set a good example but there is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking socially when they are around.
